tractDeaf Ministry

Ministry Head:  Jerry Jordan

Start Date:  1998

Ministry Vision Verse:  “And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity, and out of darkness.” -Isaiah 29:18

Mission (Goal):  Like our soul winning ministry, the goal of the deaf ministry is to fulfill the great commission by reaching the deaf in our community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, encouraging them to be baptized, and discipling them through the preaching and teaching of the Word of God.

Impact Since Start:  The Word of God has been proclaimed to many deaf throughout Anchorage; even reaching the deaf in villages throughout Alaska while they are visiting Anchorage.  In addition to the deaf ministry, the deaf have even been reached through our soul winning, bus, and hospital ministries.  Numerous church members have learned sign language as part of the Bible college and have been effective in interpreting services, sharing the Gospel, and encouraging visitors.  Through the years, we have had numerous visitors and have had a few attending services reguarly.  Praise the Lord, we have had one deaf teenager accept Christ as his Savior!  In 2006, the first annual deaf camp was held.

Difficulties To Deal With:  Alaska and Anchorage have the fewest numbers of deaf per capita than any other state.  These small numbers presents a challenge in encouraging the deaf to attend services.  The deaf are either not interested in religious services or currently attend services at another “church” that has a larger deaf ministry.

Special Notes (Things To Pray About):  Pray most of all for souls to be saved and discipled.  Pray for the deaf camp that the Lord will provide good weather, safety, good attendance, and wisdom for the workers.
